Laser Therapy Can Play A Vital Role In Your Recovery

Laser therapy uses focused light energy as a treatment option for selected musculoskeletal conditions. At Pro Motion Physiotherapy, it may be used alongside other physiotherapy treatments when it is appropriate for your condition and goals.

Watch this short video for an overview of how laser therapy is used in physiotherapy.

What Is Class IV Laser Therapy?

How Does Laser Therapy Work?

Laser therapy uses light energy to interact with tissue, a process commonly referred to as photobiomodulation. It may help influence pain, inflammation and tissue healing in some musculoskeletal conditions.

Laser therapy is not used as a stand-alone solution. Your physiotherapist will first assess your condition and determine whether it may be a useful part of your overall treatment plan.

What to Expect

Treatment is targeted to the area identified during your assessment.

A handheld laser device is applied over the treatment area for a short period of time. Treatment settings vary depending on the condition, tissue depth and type of laser being used.

Most people feel little or no discomfort during treatment.

Conditions We May Use Laser Therapy For

Laser therapy may be considered for selected musculoskeletal conditions such as:

  • Tendon-related pain
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Tennis or golfer’s elbow
  • Shoulder tendon and rotator cuff conditions
  • Osteoarthritis-related joint pain
  • Muscle and ligament injuries
  • Low back or neck pain
  • Some persistent soft-tissue injuries

Whether laser therapy is appropriate depends on your assessment and the nature of your condition.
