Why should I see a physiotherapist?

Physiotherapy can help you move, recover and function better.

Physiotherapists are university-trained health professionals who assess and treat musculoskeletal and neurological conditions. Physiotherapy can help reduce pain, restore movement, improve strength and mobility, support recovery after injury or surgery, and help you return to work, sport and everyday activity.

What should I expect at my first appointment?

Your first visit is about understanding what is going on.

Your physiotherapist will begin by asking about your symptoms, how they are affecting you and what you want to get back to. They will then complete a thorough assessment, explain what they find and discuss a treatment plan with you.

What should I wear?

Comfortable clothing makes assessment easier.

Wear clothing that allows your physiotherapist to easily assess the area being treated. Shorts, a tank top or loose-fitting clothing are often helpful depending on your injury.

What should I bring?

A few details can help us understand your situation more quickly.

Bring any relevant medical information, imaging reports or referral documents you may have. If your appointment is related to an ICBC or WorkSafeBC claim, bring your claim information as well.

Do I need a doctor’s referral?

Usually, no.

You generally do not need a doctor’s referral to see a physiotherapist. Some extended health insurance plans may require one for reimbursement, but to be seen by a physiotherapist, we do not need a referral.

Sometimes your doctor/surgeon will provide special instructions for your therapist which they need to see.  In these cases, it is important to bring this with you.

How long is an appointment?

Appointment length depends on the type of visit.

Your first appointment may take longer because it includes a more detailed assessment. Follow-up appointments vary depending on the type of treatment and your individual needs. Usually we will do both assessment and treatment, so plan on spending at least an hour with us on your first visit.

Do you direct bill extended health insurance?

We can help make the payment process easier.

Pro Motion offers direct billing for a number of different insurance providers. When you are in the clinic, we can submit eligible claims on your behalf and let you know how much your insurance company covers, and how much is left for you to pay. Coverage varies by plan, so we recommend confirming your physiotherapy benefits with your insurer.

Do you treat ICBC and WorkSafeBC injuries?

Yes, we provide rehabilitation for motor vehicle and workplace injuries.

Our physiotherapists assess and treat injuries related to motor vehicle accidents and workplace incidents and can help guide you through the rehabilitation process.

What if I’m not sure which service I need?

You do not need to figure that out on your own.

Book a physiotherapy assessment and your physiotherapist can help determine the most appropriate treatment or rehabilitation approach based on your symptoms and goals.
